March to Commemorate
New Mexico has one of the highest Volunteerism Rates in the United States. To show our appreciation Western New Mexico University Remembrance March is hosting the Walk for Heroes on October 18, 2025. In doing so we will be Fallen Veterans from all branches of the US Armed Forces. Most of whom are Grant County Residents and New Mexico Residents. The goal and intent of this event is to honor our Veterans by fulfilling the final mission to carry on their legacy for their sacrifices, and sacrifices their families have made to protect the freedoms of our great country.
Participant Categories
- 3 mile march around the Fort Bayard Historical Landmark and the Veterans National Cemetery and then return back to the Bataan Memorial Park. Participants can walk, run, or ruck. After the completion of the march, we will be presenting the honored Veterans plaques. Those who require accessibility should consider the terrain due to loose rocks and steep inclines and declines.
Safety
- Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
- Water and health stations provided along the track to ensure the health and safety of all participants.
Registration
The registration fee for the WNMU Remembrance March Walk is $25. Your generous donation will go toward supporting veterans at WNMU and throughout the Grant County area. Please feel free to email us a picture of your Fallen Veteran and a picture of your Fallen Veteran’s headstone. Send images to sylvia.sierra@wnmu.edu. Please include your full name in the email and the name of your Veteran.
